The Pittsburgh Penguins clinched a playoff berth against Buffalo in the final game of the 2014-2015 regular season.
The Pens squeeked by after failing to clinch the previous two games against Ottawa and The NY Islanders.
Marc-Andre Fleury was the team MVP and the savior of the Pens playoff hopes and was named team MVP and Crosby shined yet again. Even though he did not win the Art Ross Trophy (leading scorer) he did take his usual MVP form.
Many lingering questions still remain, " Can the Pens win without Letang?" The Pens have only won 2 games since Letang was injured against the Coyotes on 3/28. GM Jim Rutherford ruled Kris Letang out for the restvif the season leaving the Pens short yet again on defense yet again. Christian Erhoff and Derrick Pouliot are still out with injuries, but fans and experts still remain hopeful of their return to face the NY Rangers in the first round.
Last season, the Pens went deep into the playoffs, before losing to the Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final. The Pens are looking for revenge with more depth than they had last season, and many people know, you need depth in order to go far in the playoffs. The Pens have the talent to beat any team with the two greatest players on the planet. The defense needs to play solid in front of Fleury and the injury bug needs to stay away from the Pens. Hopefully this season will be different.
Being that they made the last wild card spot in the East, there really is no high expectation for the Pens. The pressure is much different last year and should ease and make their playoff run easier.
