The Pittsburgh Penguins finally scored three goals in regulation against the Washington Capitals on rivalry night.
Goals scored by Beau Bennett, Phil Kessel, and Nick Bonino lifted the Pens past Alexander Ovechkin and the red hot Capitals. Bennett scored his second goal since coming back from missing five games due to injury.
The Pens were successful in terms of offense and defense with Fleury pitching nearly another shutout however, the Pens were destroyed in terms of physicality. The Capitals opened the game up playing physical and checking nearly everyone who touched the puck.
Pittsburgh needs to be more physical in order to keep up with playoff contenders like the Capitals.
Bobby Farnham was the only physical player the Pens had in their lineup, but was claimed off waivers by New Jersey. The term "too soft" has often been used when describing the Pens. They have almost everything except pure defense and physical play. Fleury played excellent but can't bail the Pens out every game.
Physicality needs to be next on GM Jim Rutherford's list.
This win however should be uplifting for Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby went pointless yet again. Crosby needs to find his game and quick.
